Week 3: Still Tweeting Away

After spending at least 15 minutes scrolling though tweets and reading linked articles everyday, I not only became even more comfortable navigating my way through Twitter, but also learned a lot of new and exciting news.
Every time I follow a new scientist or organization, Twitter automatically suggests similar accounts I could follow. I found myself clicking on several related people/organizations. Before I knew it, I already added more than 20 accounts. I even gained 5 new followers in the meantime!
One of the accounts I followed, Lauren Guillette, is a research leader at University of Alberta. Her group focuses on animal learning and problem solving skills in the wild. One of her projects include observing and analyzing social learning of nest-building birds. Another interesting account I found was Shark Bay Dolphin Project. Established since 1982, the organization's mission is to protect dolphins specifically located in Western Australia through research. With a love for aquatic animals that was fostered since I took my first snorkeling lesson in 3rd grade combined with new knowledge I gained through Twitter articles, I am leaning towards researching more about marine life for this course's final projects.
One of the posts that I retweeted were about the permanent closure and destruction of Gupo Market in Korea. Last week, I posted about the breaking news of Human Society International and partnering organizations shutting down Gupo Market, which is one of South Korea's largest dog meat markets. However this week, I was updated with the news that more than 80 dogs were saved from slaughter, given medical checkups, and vaccinated. The rescued dogs will be flown to Canada and the US for further care. In addition, the dog cages and the street of dog market stalls were demolished and recycled, making room for novel environmentally-friendly businesses.
That's all for this week! Check back next week to read about my Twitter weekly recap!
