This week, I learned a lot about not only dolphins (my main focus of research) but also a variety of species including lions, jellyfish, and monarch butterflies. In my last tweet, I shared a fascinating article by National Geographic titled "How bioluminescence works in nature." I was drawn to the article because I remember seeing that same species of jellyfish at the Long Beach Aquarium last summer when I visited. I learned that not only are the glowing lights pleasing to look at, but the lights provide defense, offense, communication, and reproduction abilities to deep water species. Bioluminescence aids in species' survival and thus, it has been passed on through evolution.

Another article I found highlighted Trump Administration's new proposal to clearcut and bulldoze millions of acres of national forests. This alarming news clearly violates the National Environmental Policy Act. Regardless, the administration plans to continue making 90% of environmental decisions without public approval. They plan on constructing new roads with the land, threatening the existence of native wildlife that have been inhabiting these lands before us.

Besides tweeting away, I also read and commented on three of my peers' blogs on the articles they practiced close readings on. One of the more notable comments I left was for Janiece. Her first article of choice was on Gouldian finches and I thought that her summary was clear and concise. The article was interesting and I learned that the birds' emotions and personalities can affect surrounding birds. However, I gave her constructive feedback, suggesting that she be more descriptive in her second summary. I was still confused after reading the second summary twice on the methods of the research. All in all, by commenting on others' blogs and reading the feedback given to me by my peers, I can see myself gradually improving as a writer and reader.
